Ethics and Freedom of the press - Brydan Zbytovsky

I think journalists should have limited freedoms because everyone needs guidelines to follow without rules the journalists would do and write whatever they pleased. People want to know what's going on in the world not a whole bunch of crazy stories that journalists changed and made up because they don't have any rules to follow. Even though journalists have limited freedoms some still do cross the boundaries to get their story across even if they do harass the subject(s).

No journalistic freedom should not be unlimited because you would not know what kind of stories you are getting. The journalists might abuse their freedoms, and ruin the journalistic society for everyone. There still needs to be some restrictions and guidelines to follow but their has to be some freedom because if their wasn't it might have a negative effect on journalism.

I believe with these freedoms has to come responsibility. If you didn't have responsibility with these freedoms all of these freedoms would be over indulged. You have to be able to use these freedoms with responsibility and respect to others, you can't just think i have all these freedoms and not think before you act. You have to show people that you are a journalist with class and can prove that you use these freedoms the right way not towards the wrong.

Journalistic freedom has been violated everywhere in the world. For example there was a bunch of native boys that were vandalizing a playground and buses at a camp for kids, and in this story their really isn't a need to say it was native boys that vandalized this camp. No one knows why this needed to be said just people think natives are known for vandalizing things which is a stereotype, lots of racial groups including white people vandalize, so there was a good example of a violation of these freedoms.

I really don't think the press in Canada is that free because it is controlled by the government so everything that is put out there goes through the government first. Do not get me wrong though I'm sure their are freedoms that the press do have because the government cannot control everything and they want to make the people happy right? So really this is a hard information to answer because they might have different rules that we do not exactly know about. I think in my community it is pretty free what they print off but I believe they do a good job on using responsibility on their freedom. In my school the press is pretty free but they have to take in consideration of the guidelines are school has; the "Three Beliefs" which are; respect, responsibility, and choose to learn. Even though our school has freedom they still have to follow some kind of rules or else the stories and everything that would be said would cause chaos in the school. Everything in the press is related in some way, the higher up you are in society the less freedom you will have about freedom because you have a wider range of information as in the press of a school. They all have the same guidelines to follow but have different freedoms to follow in my opinion.
