A study was taken about teens a video games, it was about the stereotype of how video games were anti-social, solitary, and violent. But the study proved that stereotype wrong. Most of the teens in the survey said that they usually play video games in front of people or with other people. It also showed that the games that are being played often have content in them such as where you have to make decisions about towns and how things should be run. The study showed that the teens that play these games learn about current events, and are more likely to be civically engaged and raise money for charity. Also, the person in charge of doing the survey encouraged parents and teachers check into how diverse and the variety of the video games that are being played.
This study relates to me because I have always played video games and have realised many of the things that have been noted in this study. Some of the games that I have played have had many problem solving type puzzles and made you really think about what you had to do. And also many of the games now are where you have to build things and make money, this is a very good way to get teen a little bit prepared for the real life. For example one big thing that one game has taught me is that you need to spend money to make money.
I completely agree with this study. I think that some of the games that are out make you smarter, and now it seems like littler kids are starting to play video games and there are games meant for them to make them smarter. Some video games also teach you how to manage your money witch is a very good skill to learn. One other part of the study was about how video games are anti-social, witch I think some games are in a way, but there are also games that are meant to be played with other people. For example the game Rockband, this is a great game to play with friends and it is also a lot more fun to play with other people. I think video games are a good thing and teach teens very good skills.
I completely agree with Dustins article about video games. It was dead on.
